Just because...

This past fall I was in JoAnn Fabrics, a dangerous store, and found this great orange and black plaid fleece on clearance. I immediately snatched it up and got equal amounts of the print and black solid fleece.

I decided that I would make a thick blanket for Kevin as a gift, maybe for Christmas or Valentine's Day since they were the upcoming gift giving holidays.  Needless to say, I sort of neglected to get the project going...

That is until last weekend when I finally got the motivation to get started, problem being that I had no reason to give him the gift considering his birthday isn't until October. Well, I was eager to put my brand new, shiny sewing machine to use so I figured that I would make the blanket anyway.  PS: Costco in Warrenton had this amazing deal on a 60 programed stitch Singer sewing machine for only $120!

I chose a basic blanket stitch (No. 21 on my machine) and simply followed the wonderful lines that plaid fabric provides! When I finished stitching, I used my fabric Fiskars to trim each edge. There were a couple rough spots, but being on a new machine and being a novice seamstress, I have to say that the blanket turned out nicely.

The other half of the project was wrapping the blanket! If there is anything you should know about me, it's that I secretly want to be a professional present wrapper, and yes, I do coordinate all of my Christmas presents...

I love using fun paper, this particular pattern is from IKEA. I also prefer using tulle or cloth ribbon over prefab bows or curly ribbon because they give a present more body, especially for larger sized items.  For this gift I added a coordinating scrapbook square as a package tag. Just remember that you do not need a specific occasion to give gift. :)
